You won’t see my name on any buildings in Midland County. That’s because I’d rather build roads.
Over the past 6 years, we have shifted your tax dollars from building new buildings and other things we don’t need to, to spending 50 million dollars a year on resurfacing and rebuilding county roads. I am committed to reprioritizing where money is spent and can reassure you that money is not funding projects for special interests.
Every road I have resurfaced or rebuilt has been labeled as a Grade A, and I promise to keep it that way.
The relationship between Midland County and the City of Midland was at the lowest point in decades when I took office. This led to political infighting, duplication of services and other wasteful spending. Now, we actually work with the City of Midland. This partnership allows us work together on public safety and infrastructure projects that will keep taxes low.
Although there is still more work to be done, I have wholeheartedly supported Sherriff Criner and our first responder’s efforts to build one of the strongest Sheriff’s departments and state of the arts detention facility. With this support, we will be able to make sure our law enforcement is equipped to handle and compete with anyone and attract any law.
Voters deserve to know how their taxes are being spent. That’s why I’ve insisted that County decisions be made in the light of day, not in a backroom. I will always support letting the voters decide whether they want to increase sales taxes. A vote for me is a vote for more transparency and a vote against the old way of doing the County’s business.
County government is the functional arm of state government and delivers many state services at the local level. The major responsibilities of Texas county government include:
Some counties are able to offer libraries, parks and other programs that add to the quality of life for local residents. Many play a vital role in the economic development of their local areas.
As a small business owner, I have brought a business mindset to the job of County Judge, and you can tell the difference. Midland County and its 800 employees are working harder and smarter than ever because I’ve kept the promises made during my first campaign.
